Well first of all let me tell you that we are not alone we have a lot of other ‘telliners here but we only see them now and again.the firstthing that I found here was the fact that I could not make myself understood, the kiwis in the early days did not take too well to us Poms as soon as they heard our strong north of England accent they switched off and would not listen,I think they thought of us as thick terrace house dwelling, chip butty eating, bitter swilling ,idiots.I had the piss took out of me at work because of my accent, but I could give back better and they where so thick themselves they did not know I was taking the piss. Believe it or not we came across the age old scouse saying of woollybacks for us .I could not resist telling the scousers this’’you are living 12,000 miles away from home, in a land with 70 million sheep and you call us woolybacks’’. The cost of living was very cheap then as it is now but cars were very expensive back then for example in 1977 a 1967 Triumph 2000 would cost about $3,000 or 1700quid I was totally amazed at the shite that was on the roads. All this has changed now with the importation of used cars from Japan. This was all way back in the 70’s it all changed in the late 80’s and now we are accepted more as we now have people from ,hong kong, china, somalia.Taiwan for them to ridicule,New Zealand has come along way since we arrived it’s a lovely place to live and work ,but it would have been easy in the early days to give up and piss off back to ‘tellins,us ‘telliners can adapt and live anywhere and do anything, well almost anything .
